Vancouver Airport latest victim of power outlet sticker prank sweeping North America

Vancouver International Airport is the latest victim of a fake outlet sticker prank sweeping airports across North America since last summer.

Vancouver International Airport is the latest victim of a power outlet sticker prank sweeping airports across North America since last summer.
As anyone who has travelled through an airport can attest, trying to track down an open outlet while waiting at a gate can be a Herculean task. So it takes a truly sadistic prankster to wreak even more havoc on what’s often already a stressful experience.
On Tuesday morning, the YVR Twitter account shared a photo of what appears to be an electrical outlet located under a window at the airport. Upon closer inspection, the outlet appears to be a sticker of a photo of an electrical outlet.
Whoever did thisyou are evil,” reads the caption accompanying the photo, shared at 6:25 a.m.

It appears YVR is not the only airport to be struck by this prank either.

“Prob the same guy who did this,” responded the Twitter account for Orlando International Airport, sharing a tweet and photo of another sticker from a MCO traveller who called the sticker prank “mean but funny.”
Tampa International Airport, however, remains unscathed – for now.
“PLEASE catch them before they get to TPA!” tweeted the account for the Florida airport.
A later tweet from the YVR social media team said any tips as to the culprit’s identity would be welcome.
“After speaking with our #AirportTwitter colleagues, it appears the #OutletBandit is on the loose at airports across North America,” the tweet read.
“Anyone with information please DM. We are on the lookout.”

YVR spokesman Christopher Richards said the airport’s social media team was having a bit of fun with the sticker on Tuesday morning, as it is a relatively harmless prank.
“That being said it is a drain on airport resources and we discourage others from doing the same,” he said.
“We do have more than 100 charging stations throughout the airport and pride ourselves on being passenger friendly when it comes to amenities like accessible outlets.”
It appears the prank originated with or at least was first publicized by a Twitter user under the handle  A pinned tweet on his account notes that the “first outlet sticker” was put up on June 14, 2017 at Miami International Airport.
The stickers are available for purchase on Amazon so who knows how many travellers have wanted to punch a wall after trying to jab a plug into a fake outlet in an airport.

It’s not the first time either that YVR’s been struck by the “outlet bandit,” as some have taken to calling the individual behind the prank.
In July 2017, YVR’s Twitter account shared a photo of another outlet sticker elsewhere in the airport, along with the caption, “‘Some men just want to watch the world burn.’ Located and removed!”
